This volume collects the results of the research programme Home Care Design for Parkinson’s Disease, aimed at defining good design practices to enhance the autonomy and quality of life of people with Parkinson’s disease within the home environment. The project approach is based on the principles of Design for Inclusion and on the theoretical and methodological approach of Human-Centred Design which have made it possible to focus attention on the specific needs and expectations of people with Parkinson’s disease and their families and to define the different design solutions.

Protected areas are among the most common and successful instruments for conserving the environmental features of different regions. However, climate change is leading the scientific community to a turning point in designing conservation plans and practices: protected areas cannot held climate change on the edge of their borders, but need adaptation pathways to the new climatic conditions. Building on the literature inherited by the field of the geography of science, the research experiments an array of computational and qualitative methodologies to reconstruct the landscape of science making in protected areas. The final goal is to shed light on the geography of scientific information that shapes the Alps, one of the most crucial conservation regions in Europe, in the face of the looming changes that global warming entails.

This book deals with re-manufacturing, recondition, reuse and repurpose considered as winning strategies for boosting regenerative circular economy in the building sector. The book investigates the most promising strategies and organizational models to maintain over time the value of the environmental and economic resources integrated into manufactured products, once they have been removed from buildings, by extending their useful life and their usability with the lower possible consumption of other materials and energy and with the maximum containment of emissions into the environment.

Questo libro affronta il tema dell’economia circolare nel settore delle costruzioni, focalizzando l’attenzione sulle possibilità di diffusione delle strategie di rimanufattura, ricondizionamento, riuso e rifunzionalizzazione di prodotti e sistemi edilizi. Il focus della ricerca è posto sugli edifici terziari: il testo esamina le strategie e i modelli organizzativi più promettenti per mantenere nel tempo il valore delle risorse ambientali ed economiche integrate nei manufatti a destinazione terziaria, una volta rimossi dagli edifici.

Questo libro affronta il tema del cambiamento climatico in relazione all’ambiente costruito focalizzando l’attenzione sulla questione delle strategie di adattamento. Il cambiamento climatico sta già colpendo duramente tutto il mondo, con esiti ancora più drammatici nelle aree, spesso le più povere, maggiormente esposte e vulnerabili. La sfida dell’adattamento ai cambiamenti climatici è dunque considerare nuovi approcci al progetto, alla costruzione e alla gestione dell’ambiente costruito e valutare i rischi in considerazione della vulnerabilità di reti, edifici e infrastrutture.

Artificial intelligence is more-or-less covertly entering our lives and houses, embedded into products and services that are acquiring novel roles and agency on users. The design discipline and the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) field are just beginning to explore the wicked relationship between Design and AI, looking for a definition of its borders, still blurred and ever changing. The book approaches this issue from a human-centered standpoint, proposing designerly reflections on AI-infused products. It addresses one main guiding question: what are the design implications of embedding intelligence into everyday objects?
