The use of patient perceptions as a measure of service quality in health and social care parallels the growth of satisfaction measurement and service quality assessment in service industries of all types. By using information related to the rating of specific aspect of care and the relationship of these care issues to the overall health care experience, we can identify the areas that should receive immediate attention for the performance improvement initiative. This work will review some of these tools, concentrating attention on the use of quadrant analysis and the priority index. Comparison and application of the tools will be accomplished using data from patients receiving home care, residential care and hospital care in a Local Health Authority of the Marches Region.
