Giuseppe Telesca examines the Olympic games of Rome in 1960, a new and interesting point of view on the Italian economic miracle. This well organised event was an excellent opportunity for the country to display its progress and new modern face. However, the cultural backwardness of the local and national political establishment and the squalid urban development of the city during the fifties inhibited a positive change throughout the Olympics. Another possibility for Rome was lost.
