The model focuses on the trend of giving up the idea of having children to devote greater resources to oneself and/or couple relation. Based on the existing literature and on data from a pre-research, four dimensions have been identified and then items for as many scales created. Scales for Opti-mism, Pessimism, Narcissism, Life Satisfaction, and Perceived Styles of Parental Relationships were added. A Questionnaire of Attitudes to Pro-creation, answering to a formal model, was then assembled and administe-red to 472 male and female childless participants aged 20 to 40 years and residing in various Italian regions. The data analyzed via the structural e-quations method support the proposed model and the research hypotheses: the structure of childfree attitudes is pluridimensional; childfree attitudes reflect deep levels of personal identity; a specific childfree attitude impro-ves life satisfaction only in individuals who, in their childhood, experienced strongly negative relationships with their parents.
