The paper examines some aspects connected to childlessness: the value im-plications for the postponers category and the correlation between reli-gious values and childlessness. The economic interpretation of childless-ness is compared with the cultural-value viewpoint and the influence of religion on childlessness is analyzed from an inter-cultural and inter-faith perspective. It comes out that the postponers category may have an interpre-tative validity, providing the economic model is assumed. If a value model were assumed, instead, both voluntary and involuntary postponers would be considered as making a personal choice toward the childlessness condition. Results also point out that religious denominations have different attitudes toward childlessness, either considering it as a disvalue, or not implying any moral meaning, or considering it only as a potential disvalue. A reflection is necessary on the basic interpretative presuppositions related to the determining factors which affect an individual choice. Moreover, the religious variable should be examined taking into account religious content and affiliation.
