It’s essential reflecting on the theories we refer to, given their consciousunconscious influence on the groupanalytic practice and vice-versa. Taking for granted that in groupanalysis it exists a general agreement on the individual’s social nature, we may deduct that it "takes us beyond Freud’s economic or energetic models". Consequently, if we want "taking the group seriously", we should recognize that groupanalysis opened a new epistemic area, as to Freudian metapsycology, which, however peeps out here and there from Foulkes’ work. The critical analysis by Diego Napolitani and Farah Dalal show how his theory is lacking, ambiguous, contradictory and its reflexes on the groupanalytic practice. According to the author such incongruities also denote the mutilated form in which Foulkes’ theory was borrowed from Burrow’s work.
Keywords: Groupanalysis’ theory, Foulkes’ contradictions, analysis by Diego Napolitani and Farah Dalal, Trigant Burrow.
