The paper analyses behaviours and opinions of roman shopkeepers regarding immigrants, using results of a survey conducted by a research team of CISR - Centro di Ricerca su Roma of "Sapienza Università di Roma". Retailers’ category is an important observatory to study migration, as it generates a demand for labour market that easily meets a cheap and unqualified supply coming from non national workers and as it has manifold occasion of interaction with immigrants. This study aims to understand how economic, social and individual dimensions of small businessman address the opinions about migrants’ integration in Italian society. The wide-ranging positions of shopkeepers are summarized by a pair of opposite behaviours: openness and distrust.
Keywords: Immigration, shopkeepers, behaviour and opinion analysis, Rome.
