The therapeutic alliance in psychodynamic therapy - The aim of this paper is to outline the concept of therapeutic alliance from a theoretical, clinical and researche perspective. The Authors start from a history of the concept of therapeutic alliance and its transformations: Freud’s and Sterba’s early psychoanalytic descriptions, Bordin’s pantheoretical definition, therapeutic alliance as the main "common factor" in psychotherapy, its operazionalization for self-report inquiries and sessions’ transcripts analysis, and collaborative interactions and rupture/reparation processes evaluation. The Authors’ intention is to show how "therapeutic alliance" is a core construct for research in psychotherapy, but it needs to be deconstructed and confrontated with other concepts such as transference, countertransference, real relationship and attachment styles.
Keywords: Therapeutic Relationship; Therapeutic Alliance; Collaborative Interactions; Therapeutic Action.
