The review discusses the most recent developments on the question of the foibe in Venezia Giulia, in particular Joze Pirjevec, Foibe. Una storia d’Italia; Luisa Accati-Renate Cogoy (editors), Il perturbante nella storia, Le foibe and Elio Apih, Le foibe giuliane. Given that the principal interpretative issues have now been resolved at the historiographical level, contributions in recent years have concentrated on public perceptions, discussing in very different ways the intensive public usage of the issue in Italy since the formal introduction of 10 February as the "Day of memory of the victims of the foibe", that specifies the expulsion of Italians from their homelands in Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia following World War II, and the complex issue of Italy’s eastern frontier.
