In this article, the author analyzes A. Meinong’s and E. Martinak’s semiotic-semantic investigations. The first section of the article addresses Martinak’s general theory of signs, whereas the second section focuses on his treatment of linguistic signs. The third section dwells on how Meinong amended Martinak’s theory. Such changes lead Meinong to confront the semantic paradox of non-existence, which constitutes the topic of the fourth section. Finally, the author criticizes the Meinonghian solution of the paradox of non-existence.
Keywords: Meinong, Martinak, Paradox of Non-existence, Sign, Semiotics, Semantics.
