Il sogno: un segreto rivelato... un segreto conservato

The paper takes in consideration the dreams and nightmares which reveal an early trauma that happened before the differentiation of the Self, a memory imprinted only in the body. The trauma created a dissociation of the primary Self in the lack of an emotional containment by the surrounding environment. The analytical room could become a space of unconscious communications in which the trauma could be revealed through dreams and revêrie, constructed together in the analytical relation. However the dream meaning cannot be translated into words to avoid the repetition of a traumatic situation, unknown to the conscience, that could bring to the disintegration of the Self. The dream as a place of unconscious communication between the analyst and the analysand is described, in Ogden’s and Benedetti ‘s theoretical frameworks. These analysts, in different times and modality, identified in the analytical couple a common therapeutic unconscious as a space of integration of a fragmented Self. Furthermore this dream’s function is illustrated by a clinical situation in which the unconscious interactions between the analyst and a young woman patient become the principal modality of communication. At last a novel by Pessoa had been utilized to underline the dream’s transformative function in the reparation of the Self.
