The author describes his impressions when in 1968 he transferred from the Cery Hospital in Lausanne to the Padua Psychiatric Hospital. He describes the mainly phenomenological climate that prevailed within the group of psychiatrists at the “PPH”. Starting from that time, he attempts to describe the cultural substrata that gave rise to the development of a therapeutic line of thought and practice where phenomenology and psychoanalysis were to coexist in their individual, group and institutional variants. Furthermore, he emphasizes a common interest in the application of theoretical aspects within the public sector. These preconditions were also core values in the founding of ASVEGRA.
Keywords: Mental hospital, phenomenology, Praecoxgefühl, psychoanalysis, group, institution.
