The author reflects on the role of writing in psychoanalysis, particularly in the clinic. She makes this by reporting clinical notes and personal experiences highlighting the strongly intrapsychic and re-elaborative, as well as communicative and interpersonal, function of writing. In particular, she focuses on the distancing and observational function of writing with respect to the clinical event and on how this function is invaluable in the reprocessing phase in the clinical material, especially in those cases in which the emotional impact with the patient is more intense.
Keywords: Writing, Preconscious, transitional, après coup.
