This contribution introduces a reflection on memory, landscape and design for abandoned industrial buildings, moving between Chinese and European thought. The observation of dwelling from an external position leads to a consideration on the relationship with time, space and the city. This deepening is, therefore, an opportunity for a renewed reading of the project within contexts characterized by a certain degree of fragility. A case study of recovery and reuse in contemporary China outlines the building culture that sustains it, unfolding the dialogue between landscape and project. The aim is to demonstrate the supporting role of the architectural project in the modification of space. The project, as a large and inclusive sphere (of skills and tools), depending on the place in which it is placed.
