The European Union has taken numerous significant commitments to the protection of social rights and, simultaneously, to military research: PESCO, PSDC, EI2 (European Inter-vention Initiative) e EDF (European Defence Fund). The aim of this article is to highlight the contradictory nature of these commitments, coupled with showing the differences of welfare systems in Europe and the limits of The European Pillar of Social Rights. This leads to a turning point for the European Union, due to its limited budget: ‘social welfare’ or military ‘know-how’. Leaning to the latter it risks to distance itself irremediably from its core princi-ples and from the Europeans, always more suffering the economic crisis and, consequently, always more Eurosceptic.
