The raising demand for settlements resilience and fairness calls for the recovery of the "metabolic" co-evolutionary relationship between urban domain and surrounding rural regions. The article, drawing on a disciplinary interpretation and outlining the commons value of the ecosystem services as potential by-products of farming, provides a methodological/operational framework to address a possible innovation in Spatial Planning and Urbanism along with an integrated urban/rural governance.
