The essay discusses a number of closely related themes: the census of the school building heritage; the institutionalized extension of school spaces to a variety of urban spaces; the adoption of a systemic approach in which the school is an influential variable in the construction of urban policies. The objective is twofold: to understand if the on-going experiences can be consolidated; to contribute to national and international discourse of projects and protocols that have been proven innovative and workable.
