The essay is part of the wider field of studies on migration outside metropolitan areas, of particular interest in the Italian context, which has long become a consolidated migratory crossroads. These areas represent privileged observatories to understand and analyse some important social implications of immigration processes. The data discussed present experiences and practices of citizenship "from below" implemented in the framework of two FAMI projects carried out at the Hotel House in Porto Recanati, a housing system in the Marche Region characterised by a high concentration of foreigners. For this reason the property has been subject of sociological, ethnographic and demographic studies over the years. The results show how the direct involvement of residents, as stakeholders in the various project phases, proved to be a "good practice", as well as a winning strategy in promoting multi-level recovery of a building that has been showing serious signs of intrinsic structural and social criticality for several decades. Moreover, through the good practices introduced, it was possible to launch more effective strategies to face the emergency linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Keywords: migrations outside metropolitan areas; citizenship from below; rights; housing.
