This study focuses on the content of the Istanbul Convention, examining its essential features in the light of national and international law. The main purpose of the Treaty is to combat violence against women and domestic violence, recognising the indissoluble link between the goal of eradicating violence and that of achieving gender equality, eliminating all forms of discrimination and promoting de facto equality. Forms of violence falling within the scope of the Convention may have devastating consequences on the victims, such that it is necessary to devise specific measures, shared between the Contracting States, to guarantee the victims’ safety and recovery of their physical and psychological health, in order to offer them the opportunity to rebuild their lives
