The assessment and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders involve functional rather than nomothetic, dimensional rather than categorical criteria, as required by the ICF model. These criteria, based on a multifactorial approach, also include emotional and motivational aspects and allow the frequent comorbidities in neurodevelopmental disorders to be weighed in the diagnosis.A few examples of functional impairment involved in different diagnostic categories are mentioned, e.g., temporal processing or attention and concentration deficits. The training processes require a transdisciplinary approach, to be implemented in future psychologists through the professional training required by the new habilitating degrees.
