The regional ombudsman for children and adolescents, in Italy, declines much of its activity in the field of child protection services. In this regard, thanks in part to the fact that this fig-ure is increasingly emancipating itself from purely legal and operational perspectives, it now seems crucial to understand, from this particular point of view, what strengths and weaknesses exist, if any, in the preparation of professionals working in these contexts, par-ticularly psychologists. Starting from the importance of a culture of human rights in order to understand and internalize ethical principles and act deontologically, moving through the relationship of the professions with the legal and bureaucratic constraints that define their legal subjectivity, some transversal competencies and methodological set-ups are hypothesized, in particular focusing on the concepts of integration and complementarity, useful for the enhancement of specific and transversal professional competencies, as well as for the optimization of possible teamwork.
Keywords: ombudsman/guarantor, human rights, ethical principles of psychologists, legal subjectivity, deontology, complementarity, integration.
