The paper offers some insights into the influence exerted by the US model – as it evolved in the New Deal era – on the post-World War II European constitutional State, as far as the development of the democratic principle is concerned. To this end, the text first focuses on the developments in the US Legal system around 1937, which revitalised the role of political processes as a legitimising factor for public choices. Subsequently, the author focuses on post- World War II constitutions to highlight the elements that most emphasise the role of political process, concluding that the US influence can be grasped more by rhymes than by reasons.
