Through the presentation of the individuation process of two patients, the author shows the role that archetypes of the collective unconscious can play in clinical practice. Archetypes bring a particular energy to dreams and Sandplay creations which, if recognised by the therapist, activates the process of transformation and healing of the psyche. This energy promotes, as Donald Kalsched says, a therapy centred on affectivity that allows the analytical relationship to repair what has been broken by dissociation following trauma. Faithful to the phenomenological method proposed by Carl Gustav Jung, the author shows how archetypal images have contributed to transforming not only the inner world of the two women, but also the co-transferential relationship with the therapist. In the first case, the archetype of the child appears in dreams and changes radically during the therapy: at first it presents itself as a threat but then reveals its fragility and becomes the patient's guiding spirit. In the second case, the Sandplay images show the wounded body searching for a new form that will promote healing.
