That Kuhn’s The Structure of Scientific Revolutions has been an enigma for scientists is well known. What is not as known is that the debate over the theories it discusses has been on hold for some time, even though it is not yet over. Nevertheless, recent theories for example the physics of complex systems seem able to re-open the terms of this debate by quite interestingly suggesting a new interpretation: Kuhn’s theses are based on mathematics and can be «explained » as collective phenomena that induce self-organization and therefore, a critical state. This state will inevitably determine a breakdown at the smallest change in its equilibrium.
