Crisis landscapes.

Opportunities and weaknesses for a sustainable development

The economic crisis generated social consequences that go beyond those related to the environment and the landscape, now becoming an alibi to not to do anything, to not manage otherwise; and drives us to look for other places where development could be planned as a new form of exploitation, as a repeating cycle with the same paths of rules, but somewhere else. It may be useful to start considering the crisis in a way which is different from the one we are used to: a physiological and periodic change, which is necessary into the socio-economic condition.

This book considers the present situation of crisis in a different way: not as something unsolvable coming from outside, totally apart from us, but as a periodic change of the socio-economic condition, which requires a new adaptation strategy.
The contributions of several authors, coming from diverse academic backgrounds, including agrarian sciences, social and economic disciplines, urban planning and landscape design, all shares a common perspective, a sustainable approach to the project.
The landscape can represent the big opportunity within the crisis for troubled territories.
The landscape, thanks to all of its environmental, cultural and social implications, may reveal itself as the common horizon to refer in order to rebuild the urban policies. It can be considered as the sharing background where it is possible to improve the quality of life for the local communities.
All the typical and identity values of a territory could serve for synergetic and cooperative actions, which promotes common values and help empowering the capacity to react the crisis in a resilient way.
