The author’s original interest in work with the small group is revisited from both personal and professional points of view. First, the group is a complex, articulated microcosm, characterized by the potentiality of non-saturated, creative and nomadic thought, and by the complexity of the dialectic movement between identification and sharing which allow transformative passages; place of integration, capable of dialogue with the new, the different and those open to a changing society which is well represented by the metaphor of a port. Through different theoretical references and a clinical sample, it highlights how today - more than ever - the small therapeutic group can be an important relational model, a small protected community which can facilitate the passage to a perfectible society that aims at uniting security and freedom.
Keywords: Therapeutic(al) group, change and integration, port.
