This paper investigates if and how to hold in due consideration the ambiguity of each evaluation process can help to understand the limits of traditional methods, tools and techniques. Performance evaluation is a relationship contextual process first, rather than being just a formal mechanism to measure actual performance against an expected performance and to control goals and objectives. Taking care of relationships and adopting an evolutionary approach for competency can help to implement an evaluation process able to develop solidarity between employees and organizations.
Keywords: Performance evaluation, human resource management, competence, ambiguity, sensemaking and measurement.
