The debate on mountain territories has been marginal concerning national development policies and theoretical reflections for years. However, in recent years, the renewed interest within inner areas has focused more on the future of mountains. The Covid-19 health emergency has heightened attention in remote regions and stimulated the debate and urgent planning for the reactivation of inner areas.Starting from the questions that emerged during seminars promoted within the DAStU / PoliMI ‘Territorial Fragility’ project, this article aims to reflect on two key topics: re-inhabiting and neo-rural, including concepts of identity, community, sustainability, and climate change.
