Within the Universit Cattolica di Milano there is a Monitoring Board on Expert Systems in Banking and Finance. Members of this board are the most active financial institutions in the field of Expert Systems.

The purpose of this Board is to build a thorough view of the evolution of Expert Systems in banking and to promote ;in exchange of experiences among participants and other organizations outside the country.

The Board meets statutory once a month to discuss on a predetermined agenda. The meeting lasts the entire day and exchanges of experiences and papers take place. Once a year an ivrnational meeting is held in the premises of Universitd Cattolica di Milano where the leading European Banks, Insurances and Universities are invited to present their experiences.

A nation-wide meeting is also held by the Board once a year under the auspices of the Italian Bankers Association. Members of the Board participate to the most frequented international meetings on Finance and Expert Systems. This book contains the proceedings of the 2nd International meeting on the Monitoring Board on Expert Systems in Banking and Finance. This meeting starts with an overview of the Knowledge-based Systems in the German Financial Industry and continues with several speakers that describe the results achieved in ES's applications.

Cecilia Rossignoli teaches Information Systems at the Faculty of Economics of the Università Cattolica di Milano. She is author of several publications on Expert Systems in the Banking Industry. She is also responsible for the Monitoring Board on Expert Systems.
