From 2015 FrancoAngeli is the new editor of Ventunesimo Secolo: Rivista di studi sulle transizioni. Under his leadership the journal is taking a new direction while maintaining a close link with its past.
Ventunesimo Secolo was founded in 2002 by a group of scholars from Luiss University of Rome, as a journal of historical studies on "transitions", and began by looking at the twentieth century. The Journal has now spent over fourteen years involved in intense scientific activity and is now fully integrated in the twenty-first century, as the title suggests. Both this century and the previous one have seen a number of radical changes - or "transitions" - that have been, and remain, of central importance to scholars within the humanities and social sciences. While examining this historical period is the primary aim of the Journal, it also deals with "contemporary" issues, which are rooted, to varying degrees, in the recent past. Ventunesimo Secolo welcomes contributions that represent both the latest historiographical trends, from "transnational history" to "global history", as well as contributions from more classical fields like "political history" and "history of international relations". The international dimension and the focus on "comparative history" remain other distinctive characteristics of Ventunesimo Secolo. Ventunesimo Secolo, while historical in nature, understands the invaluable contribution of other humanities and social science disciplines to examining historical phenomena: dialogue between these disciplines is one of the goals of the publication. In its editorial approach, Ventunesimo Secolo intends to give priority to special issues which are the result of independent scientific initiatives such as conferences, seminars and academic research projects, and include contributions by both internationally renowned scholars and young researchers. Individual contributions that demonstrate extensive and innovative research and stimulate scientific debate are also welcome. The same criteria will be applied to reviews, which will be marked as "review articles". The journal also aims to publish foreign language contributions to highlight the multilingual nature of its readership. Ventunesimo Secolo is inspired by the scientific and transparency criteria established by the Italian agency ANVUR. The rigorous application of these criteria by the Journal is in recognition of the importance of these standards, with the hope that the publication can maintain the high level of relevance and scientific rigour for which it has become known. Ventunesimo Secolo is open to all contributions within these parameters. It intends to be a forum for open discussion and cultural elaboration without any disciplinary or "school" barriers.
