Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy has been published by the SIPP, Italian Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association, since 1993. The editorial line has always had full autonomy about the elaboration and the choice of themes and articles to be published. The magazine relates the psychoanalytic thoughts with the changing clinic problems, the Freudian theories and the most updated reflections and techniques. The aim is to enforce the area of the psychoanalytic psychotherapy, the basis of the development and perhaps the future of psychoanalysis itself. In the continuously changing world, the psychoanalytic psychotherapy magazine has the task of exploring new clinical models and original solutions to address the actual needs of the new kinds of patients requesting treatments. It wants to stimulate research on the professional identity of those working in the field of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, where it is necessary to reap the benefits of many experiences and reflections even if still in progress. The clinical practice has always been the base of the psychoanalytic way of thinking: vivid attention to the therapeutic process, the implicit theories, and the dealing style with patients. All of those are particularly interesting fields to research. Today most of the clinical experiences are often done in unusual situations, one’s could say extreme. It is in other contexts, "at the border", different from a psychoanalytic studio, where psychoanalytic theories and well experimented techniques can often reach a real deepening. The journal also connects itself to major current issues, it takes part in debates about the fast changing today’s world, opening itself to different arts and cultures where the psychoanalytic model can provide specific tools of thinking. It is a hard task to translate such experiences in writings: we can imagine that the way could be opening to the readers the consulting room without a stiff theoretical language drawing such as a veil over what the most alive is happening there. Each issue has a core theme of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, but at the same time, retaining a large space to contributions spanning different topics. The journal in its initial part has the section Essays, works with a broader clinical and theoretical breath, Scorci werw are collected a predominantly clinical character items, Institutions section that contains contributions to the experiences related institutional work, finally Readings contemplating authors interviews recent books, reviews and short boards.

Papers are then assigned to an editor who oversees the entire editorial process including the final decision on the manuscript. If judged suitable for publication, the manuscript is sent to at least two independent referees for double blind peer review.
